By Peggy W

Christmas Garlands come in all types to suit the most discriminating of tastes and they can be utilized to grace the Christmas tree, banisters, hearths, outdoors and elsewhere.

Places to use these holiday garlands are only limited by one's imagination!

Just as people have different styles with regard to how they dress or the furniture they choose to have in their homes, manufacturers of holiday garlands have kept that in mind when designing garlands.

Let's take a look at what is available with regard to these Christmas garland decorations.

For some people who live in northern climates, they get to enjoy the site of real snow settling on tree branches creating a pristine white outdoor landscape.

I remember those days! I especially liked the look of fresh fallen snow on the Blue Spruce trees in my parent's yard when I was a child.

Purchasing snowflake garlands can bring the outdoors in when utilized on Christmas trees or stringing them in other places...perhaps a light fixture?

And for those of us living in southern climates where snow in the winter rarely if ever occurs, these snowflake garlands can bring a bit of the frosty winter down south into our homes and hearts.

Have you ever used tinsel on your Christmas trees?

Instead of having to concern oneself with wrapping Christmas lights around the garlands, why not purchase a pre lit garland where all the hard work is already accomplished?

There are numerous choices from which to choose and this can make your decorating life ever so much easier.

We have some old pine garlands that have been wrapped with Christmas lights which we have used for several years now to decorate outside our front door.

Many of the bulbs have burned out and the pine garlands are not looking as fresh as they used to look. When we replace them, we will certainly consider purchasing lighted garlands.

Why not simplify life? Don't you agree?

Hi GmaGoldie,

Glad that you liked the different types of Christmas garlands that can be available for decorating. We just recently purchased a lighted pine greenery one with pinecones attached and then decorated it with artificial poinsettias and other embellished leaves. Looks great on the mantle over our fireplace. That is the thing about garlands...they can be used in so many places and in so many ways. Thanks for your comment.

Hi Kay D,

I am not familiar with what you are seeking. Have you done an Internet search with those exacting specifications? Hope that you find what you want. Thanks for your inquiry. Maybe someone else reading this will be familiar with your request and can point you in the right direction.

Hello,

I am trying to find the tinsel that has a ring that fits over a christmas tree and the tinsel is the length of the tree, which avoids the separate pieces of tinsel that have to be placed on the tree. Would anyone happen to know where I might be able to find this tinsel?

Hello Om Paramapoonya,

That would be nice combining those two things into a Christmas garland for the Christmas tree or bannister or elsewhere. I agree with you...candy canes and snowflakes. I can see it now! Thanks for the comment.

Hello gr82bme,

It doesn't get that cold where we now live, but the stores do get SO CROWDED with people. It is always a good idea to get the Christmas shopping out of the way early before supplies of things like these garlands get picked over and there is less choice. The nice thing about shopping online is that you are assured of getting exactly what you see that is for sale. Thanks for commenting on this Christmas garlands hub.

Hi Stephanie,

I know what you mean about keeping some of the old things (like your "ratty" tinsel garland) for the good memories that they invoke. This was written more for the people who do not yet have Christmas garlands and wish to start the decorating process. There are many options! Thanks for the compliment on the layout. Have a system going! Ha!

Hello dahoglund,

The nice thing about many of these Christmas garlands is that they can add color and sparkle without the use of lights. I know what you mean about the use of outdoor lighting after the first oil crisis. The lighted garlands they make now fortunately use less electricity. We also no longer put up as much in the way of Christmas decorations as when we were younger but still do a little. Our two nativity scenes are the first ones out of the box. One is the original one from when I was a child and it was always placed at the foot of the Christmas tree.

Nice hearing about the snow report. You'll soon have more up there in Wisconsin Rapids! I remember those days well!

Very useful hub, Peggy, and I think your layout on this one is especially nice. I love some of the new garlands, but my very favorite is an old tinsel garland that I bought many, many years ago. It's getting so ratty, but still brings back good memories each time I place it on my tree.

Since we seldom spend the holidays at home we have not gotten into much decorating, plus being lazy. it is interesting about outdoor decorations. After the fuel crisis there was sort of a moratorium on outside lights of all sorts. Then they came back big time.

We got some first snow here but so far it has melted off. When I was talking to my daughter in Minneapolis Saturday she said they were getting quite a bit of it.

Peggy, I use quite a bit of garland but I don't think I realized how many types of garland are available. This is a helpful hub.
