Texas Bluebonnet Wine Trail Tourism - Windy Winery in Brenham, Texas

Cattle and a red colored train caboose...?

Multi-colored wildflowers and a winery...?

What do these have in common you might be thinking.

It is all scenery that can be viewed on the Texas Bluebonnet Wine Trail in the Spring of the year...especially if enjoyed at Windy Winery in Brenham, Texas and seen from the nearby roads leading to and from that destination.

Inside of Windy Winery...

Once one has entered Windy Winery there is a cozy and homey atmosphere especially if one has been reared in the country or likes country decor.

Friendly folks greet one behind a wooden bar and are there to offer you samples of the wines made at Windy Winery.

These deer horns are hung over a doorway and are strung with clusters of grapes which somehow seem appropriate as one is in a winery.

Decor inside Windy Winery...

It consists of old signs as well as new hand painted empty wine bottles, the latter of which are for sale. The stained glass under the tin roof sends shimmering colors into the room depending upon what time of day the rays of the sun shine through the glass.

My husband and I happened to be there in the afternoon and the prismatic hues of color added to the warm ambiance inside the tasting room of Windy Winery.

Windy Winery exterior...

While the exterior of the metal building may not be a thing of great beauty, the landscape around the winery makes up for it.

The winery does sit atop a small rise of a hill and the wind whips across one's face and body when outside. At least the wind was assertive the day we were there. Perhaps that is the reason behind the name...Windy Winery?

To the right you can see the whimsical sculpture that greets one on the outside of the winery.

Someone obviously enjoys decorating and utilizing empty wine bottles for their canvas to make an interesting artistic statement.

Yard Art...

The backyard of Windy Winery contains some old rusted farm equipment as well as some constructed metal art as can be seen to the right.

After we checked in and identified ourselves as being on the Texas Bluebonnet Wine Trail, we were directed through the tasting room to the backyard where various types of seating was provided.

We were served two different types of wine and accompanying that was a salad with some greens, goat cheese and a balsamic vinegar dressing plus croutons.

The wind was blowing so much that we actually had to keep a good grasp onto our plastic plates with the salad in fear of them taking to the air.

Several other couples were sampling the wines and food along with us but the greatest allure ( to my husband and myself ) was the scenery at that moment in time.

Springtime has to be the most scenic season of the year at Windy Winery with the adjacent field just beyond a wire fence being ablaze with color from the prolific blooming wildflowers!

Harrow...

Although neither my husband nor I knew the function of the piece of farm equipment pictured above, the one below (as explained by my hubby) was an old harrow.

A harrow is something that smooths the soil and by looking at the "teeth" one can understand how that would be accomplished.

My husband ( when he was a small child ) spent a couple of weeks each year at a farm in Iowa owned and operated by a great aunt and uncle of his. He loved that special time spent with them and learned a bit about the farming way of life. Those are fond memories of his to this day.

Bluebonnets...

This was after-all the Texas Bluebonnet Wine Trail and one would expect to see bluebonnets.

Windy Winery does not disappoint one with regard to seeing bluebonnets.

A field just the other side of a wire fence has not only bluebonnets but other types of wildflowers as well.

Some photographers were actually sitting on the ground of Windy Winery with their large zoom lenses of their cameras focusing on these transient beauties just the other side of the fencing.

With my trusty Panasonic digital camera, I captured these pictures which brightened my day.

Note the white bluebonnet. These are not widely seen...the more usual color naturally being blue.

Cattle...

This part of the country around Brenham consists of much farmland as well as cattle ranches.

Many mixed herds of cattle were to be seen as we traveled the roads on this bluebonnet wine trail.

I'll share a few photos that were taken showing cattle amidst the fields sprinkled with wildflowers.

Exploring the countryside outside of Houston...

While we have seen blooming wildflowers each year...in fact we generally make a special effort to get out and see them...this year combining that quest with the Texas Bluebonnet Wine Trail and getting to see wineries like Windy Winery in Brenham, Texas made for an even more enjoyable venture. Hopefully you enjoyed this peek into the countryside outside of Houston and enjoyed this journey along with my husband and me.

Hi Betty,

We have been to a couple of wineries in your area. This is peaking my interest to see more of them in Texas when time permits. Thanks for the visit.

Hello Wanderlust,

Yes, Texas has quite a few wineries spread all over the State. This Texas Bluebonnet Wine Trail was our inspiration to get out there and start discovering ones like Windy Winery.

Actually there are only a couple of types of grapes grown in this area and many of the wineries import grapes or the juice from other states to blend and make their wines.

As to them being good...obviously it is a matter of taste. We like some better than others but that could be said of wine from any other state or country for that matter.

Thanks for the visit and comment.

I am absolutely surprised that Texas has wineries, but I guess they are everywhere. How is the wine? Any good?

Beautiful pictures, and actually Texas' countryside is quite beautiful! Thanks for an information.

Hi Lee B,

Yes, Windy Winery in Brenham is definitely worth a visit. The surrounding countryside is also so very pretty and the bluebonnets capped it off for us. We so enjoyed taking this Texas Bluebonnet Wine Trail and think that others would also have fun doing it. It is an annual event. Culminates this coming weekend but the wineries are open year round for regular tastings and events. Thanks for the visit.

Hello sarovai,

Thanks for coming along on our Bluebonnet Wine Trail and Windy Winery visit.

Brenham, Texas and the surrounding area seems to have some of the best wildflower displays in the State. Whenever one sees a bunch of cars parked alongside the road...one knows in advance that wildflowers are being photographed. Hope that if you get to visit Windy Winery, you do it when the wildflowers are blooming. Such a beautiful time of year!

Greetings Hello, hello,

So happy that you enjoyed this hub about Windy Winery in Brenham, Texas. The bluebonnets and other wildflowers have been extra-ordinarily beautiful this year. Just the right combination of rain and temperatures took place earlier in the year to generate this display. Thanks for your first comment.
