If you are anticipating looking at women's old fashioned underpinnings or underwear then you might wish to direct your attention elsewhere. Pictures of Martha's Bloomers in Navasota, Texas is anything and everything but that!
Thanks to my Houston friend Lisa, we visited Martha's Bloomers recently and had the most delightful day.
She had spotted this unique place from the road and researched it on the Internet which piqued her interest even more (out of the many other interesting Texas sites from which to choose).
LIsa invited me to join her on this outing and together we planned a day that suited both of us for this adventure into the countryside.
Leaving the western part of Houston we took highway 290 heading east and then veared north on Highway 6.

The countryside...
It was not long before we were enjoying bucolic settings consisting of rolling hills, cows in pastures, occasional ponds of water and other sites common to the country-side in this part of Texas. Her vehicle transported us and made the miles under her tires swiftly disappear between Houston and Navasota, Texas.
As the miles melted away so did the minutes because whenever Lisa and I get together, there is never a lack of conversation. We always seem to have a myriad of subjects to discuss since we share some common interests.
Before we knew it...we had arrived at our destination.

Address of Martha's Bloomers
P.O. Box 999, 8101 Hwy 6 Bypass, Navasota, TX 77868
While this gives you a mailing address, the directions on how to find this wonderful place consists of the following...
If coming from the Houson area as we did, while heading north on Highway 6, do NOT exit business 6 into Navasota but continue to follow Highway 6 past Highway 90 (and a current McDonald's sign) and Martha's Bloomers will be approximately 1/2 mile ahead on your right.
Look for the giant teakettle and Martha's Bloomers sign. Reputed to be "The World's Largest Teapot" it sits out in a field and is eye-catching to say the least!

Obviously this is a destination point for many people!
It was a hot spring day that felt more like summer when my friend Lisa and I were visiting this destination. Thus, we toured the entire space seeing the wonders of how they had landscaped the exterior, but also being able to duck into the air-conditioned interiors as we were inclined to do so as to maintain our comfort levels.
The pictures in this hub will reflect our venturing in and out of these intriguing spaces.

Cats galore and a bird...
What one will find as a matter of course particularly as the logo contains a cat on a fence, is the presence of cats in Martha's Bloomers.
Several of these pampered pets roam the grounds freely and the day we were there a particularly friendly grey cat was not only on the check-out counter ...but was obviously inviting some attention from customers in the store. He achieved his goal with us and received the desired stroking and petting of which he is accustomed to getting from cat lovers.
After getting appropriate attention from us, I captured a picture of him trying to take a nap on the counter.
A caged bird adds to the ambiance inside the store and also the noise level at times as he tries to "chat" with the browsers in the store looking at the many inviting treasures.

The picture below shows the sign directing people to where they have trees for sale. The Cattle Guard Crossing sign is a clever application as the shade of the overhead trellised walkway is an impression of what a cattle guard crossing would primarily look like to a roaming cow on the loose.

Numerous water fountains bubbling up from the insides of large ceramic pots with the water flowing down the edges into large pebbles below along with other water features spread throughout this lovely nursery / garden setting offers soothing sounds as one meanders the grounds.
Someday I would enjoy adding a water feature to our backyard beyond the present bird bath which we already have.

Café M. Bloomers
Lisa and I had planned to have lunch at the cafe which is incorporated into the grounds of Martha's Bloomers seamlessly.
While this is a Tea Room, this is not one of those frilly little establishments that would only appeal to some women. Men can also enjoy the scrumptious and innovative menu offerings which range from homemade soups and salads to sandwiches and wraps, specials of the day and desserts.
Lisa chose a quiche special and I chose to enjoy a "Lantana Wrap" which consisted of grilled chicken, monterey jack cheese, lettuce, tomato and avocado wrapped in a sun dried tomato tortilla. Each of us also received our choice of an accompanying cup of homemade soup or salad. My portion was huge and the half portion that I brought home with me made for another meal. Pricing is reasonable with most menu offerings in the $5.95 to $9.95 range.
Special events can be hosted in this lovely setting and I would imagine that many people take advantage of it.
Café M. Bloomers offers lunches on Tuesdays through Sundays from 11 AM until 3 PM, with desserts and tea until closing at 4 PM.
Would I dine there again? Absolutely.....yes!

Treasures at Martha's Bloomers
Treasures to be discovered...
After our delightful lunch we walked around and explored more of what there is to see at Martha's Bloomers.
Everywhere one looks one can find unique items incorporated into the landscape...most all of which is for sale.
Some of the garden decor items are old rusted items that have new life as an art form.
From old chicken coops to old doors with peeling paint to Texana hand crafted items and more...one just has to gaze in almost any direction to see both new and old items being utilized in fun and artistic new directions.
Lisa was getting some ideas for what she might eventually want to do in her backyard and while our garden landscaping no longer needs many changes, I was wondering if I could tuck that cute cactus sculpture into our decor. I really liked it but came away without purchasing it.
If it or a similar one is there the next time I get to visit...it just may have to come home with me!

Kittens
'giggles for you'
A cute little store in the Martha's Bloomers complex, this offers items of every sort and fashion having to do with pets.
These cute and very playful kittens were inside the shop and meeting the owner, Sabrina Mayfield and her dog who also accompanied her that day, was a distinct pleasure. She invites teachers to take advantage of her traveling "show" with many of her basset hounds being a part of the action and she concentrates on teaching good values with respect to animals and life in general from what we gathered.
Primarily she finds delight in all the animals in her life which range from all varieties of rescued dogs to cats to birds to a horse and even a pet goat and her enthusiasm for life with "giggles" is contagious.
She can be contacted at sabrina@gigglesforyou.com or via cell phone (979) 492-3248.
If you are an animal lover, be sure and check out her animal friendly environs while at Martha's Bloomers.

Shops and more...
As mentioned earlier, Lisa and I spent some time outside looking at the assorted potted plants and other garden items for sale but we also were able to get into shaded areas and air-conditioned shops at will.
Therefore, even though the heat of southern summers seems to have begun in earnest (though it is still officially late in the Spring of the year) we were able to remain comfortable.
One of the shops which drew our interest contained an assortment of jewelry which was inspired by places from around the globe. Everything from hand blown glass pendants to turquoise and other jewel embellished crosses to airy mesh designed flower pins and more can be found in this room off of the main Martha's Bloomers storefront.
Lisa was admiring some intricately beaded evening bags and enjoying the scents of fragrant candles in tins but ultimately chose a new bracelet as an adornment to be added to her collection of jewelry. It is indeed a very pretty one!
These last pictures were taken in the front of Martha's Bloomers as viewed from the parking lot.
There were stacks of mulch bags surrounding what appeared to me to be an old water tower made of brick with wood on the top.
Just as one would see at a large Home and Garden Store, carts were being taken out to people's vehicles where garden items of every sort were being loaded into them.
Shopping bags were transporting smaller treasures which could have come from the gourmet shop inside carrying things like special coffees and teas to cookbooks, spice items and even tea sets.
There is so much to look at that one visit cannot capture all the impressions nor what can be found at Martha's Bloomers.
These pictures included in this hub are merely an introduction to what you might be able to see if and when you visit this charming place in person someday. When considering Texas sites to visit, you just might enjoy spending some time at Martha's Bloomers!

Looks like a real collectors paradise - love all the old Western artifacts make for great talking points also.
Wow, what a cool place this would be to visit. At first I thought it kind of reminded me of a Stein's Garden and Gifts store, but reading and looking on, I quickly realized this was very much more than that. Not just a store or a few shops, but a destination.
If I'm ever that way, this would be a place to stop by for sure. Great stuff.
What an interesting and beautiful place! There is so much to explore here.
When I saw your title, I thought it is about flowers in bloom. Well, there are indeed flowers but as you showed us, there are more things around.
I enjoyed exploring with you Peggy!
Thank you very much for sharing!
you have succeeded with the highest order in making this world a far far more beautiful place to be!
This is a very nice hub to look at - in fact I want to move right in now and live here - rent free - if that's possible!
I will work for my keep (room and board) do the laundry and take out the garbage too!
What an unusual, fun, interesting place. You certainly are a fine photographer. Thank you for this pleasure.
Peggy I have never heard of Martha's Bloomers near Houston - it seems quite the place and you have taken some wonderful photos - the wagon wheel and rusted bikes were my favorites. I must admit I was scared to look with the title and all :)
What a beautiful and quaint place to visit. It is easy to see the appeal of this place as a destination. The photos were very nice, as well. You have quite the interesting photo gallery from your day trips around Texas.
I sure wish Kansas had places to see this nice.
Mike
lovely photos for a sunny day- which we actually have today
Great hub! Great pictures again! I love "these kinds of places"! Thank you again Peggy!
What a fun visit this was through your eyes. All the whimsical artifacts, the serene crosses, the tranquil gardens, the big teapot, the adorable cats (my absolutely soft spot). Thanks Peggy for taking us on this trip with you; much enjoyed.
I thought either knickers or brad. A bllomer is a large loaf of bread. I love places like that Peggy. What fun
Thank you, Peggy, for taking me on such a wonderful trip. I thoroughly enjoyed every bit of it.
It's always so interesting to read your hubs. Your great descriptions and pictures make me want to be there.
Thanks Peggy for letting me go with you and Lisa to Martha's Bloomers. I love hubs that take me to unique and interesting places that I might not get to otherwise.
Interesting place to shop, and your lunch sounded fantastic. So much of the world still to see!
This looks like such a wonderful place. In fact here in Pretoria we have a somewhat similar place called Safariland and now you've given me another idea for a Hub - I'll do one on Safariland.
Peggy - you are becoming something of a muse for me! Thank you so much.
Love and peace
Tony
Good information from you. I ever knew about this before. But this is totally great, especially I enjoy with all the pictures. Thumbs up for you and good work my friend.

It looks like a place that I might look around if I were traveling, although I generally don't go to stores unless I'm on a mission to buy something I need.Your pictures do a nice job of enhancing the article.
Wow, excellent article. Well written, great first hand original content with the photos, and put together very nicely.
And by the way, I see what you did there in the title... ;)

Hi Billy,
Yes, Martha's Bloomers definitely can add some interesting old Western artifacts or even newly created ones to a home garden landscape if desired. Fun place to visit if ever in the Navasota area of Texas!
