Never will I forget the day that my German girlfriend and I sat at an outdoor table in a small town in Germany with a grand cathedral as a backdrop.
We decided to enjoy a freshly prepared cup of espresso while seated in that plaza listening to the chirping birds flutter among the trees and watching the mothers pushing their babies in their prams.
It was such a relaxing way to spend a few moments in time and it is forever frozen in my memory as a salutatory event.
Other wonderful meals shared at some great restaurants with my husband through the years have capped off many a fine evening with our cups of espresso.
My husband was the one who first introduced me to the delights of expresso many years ago and I have been a fan ever since.
He has made espresso at home for our guests and me on numerous occasions.
A nice little piece of biscotti can be a perfect accompaniment to a small frothy cup of steaming espresso for those who wish to have a little something sweet with their java.

Coffee accessories
If you purchase whole bean coffee you will need a coffee grinder.
These type of coffee accessories need not be costly. If you purchase an electric coffee grinder, keep it solely for that use so that other flavorings do not get mingled in and taint your ground coffee.
We have several coffee grinders for that very reason!
An antique old fashioned hand cranked coffee bean grinder with a pull-out shelf adorns the top of our refrigerator as a decoration.
Those type of grinders pre-dated my coffee drinking years! Yes...they DID! Haha!

I Iove espresso.
An espresso machine is a GREAT gift! A friend of mine gave me one years ago, and I used it every day. In fact, I used it so much, I wore it out! Would love to have another one--maybe for Christmas. I'll have to give someone a subtle hint. Great hub!

Yes...like you we have the old stove top Bialetti espresso pot which still works well. It is nice to know about all of these newer versions.

What a great review of what's on the market today for making the perfect cup of espresso coffee at home.
I'm a bit of a dinosaur here with my old stove top Bialetti-type aluminum pot (maybe like yours?). In fact, I have two of them, one for me and one for company. I've had these precious pots for decades.
Once the espresso is done, I wipe the rim of an espresso cup with lemon rind, add a dash of sambuca to the coffee, and, OMG, off to the best of times.

Coffee houses have been around for a time but as you said, Starbucks really exploded the coffee scene in America as far as a gathering place to socialize and sip some espresso or other type of coffee. Many people use those venues to meet and do business.

Interesting that the Wisconsin Rapids library has a coffee shop inside. Many of the big chain bookstores down here have Starbucks in them. One can order a variety of different types of coffee...espresso being just one of them. Thanks for your interesting comment.
Espresso has changed it's statue since the 1960's. I never went to coffee houses much but there ws one in the Minneapolis University shopping area called "Dinky Town" in Minneapolis. It was interesting and hippy.It was a bit beore bob Dulan started hanging around there.The folk music crowd tended to hang out there to. Now we have a coffee shop in the Wisconsin Rapids Library--The librarian dates back to that era. The expresso was powerful strong coffee, I'll say that.Usually I like plain old fashion coffee made at home.

I purposely put an "x" in one "expresso" as many searches are done that way in lieu of the "s." Also put it in some of the keywords. You caught it! Smart lady! We have a basic stove top espresso maker that we have also had for years but after writing this and seeing prices...may have to upgrade sometime. We do have several coffee grinders for just the reasons you listed. Can't mess up that coffee! :-)

Peggy! My all-time, favorite beverage is espresso! Fab! I don't know anyone up here who doesn't have their own maker - fancy or basic. I have a basic Krups that has been with me for years! I chucked.. you spelled it with an 'x'! It's surprising how many people do that (you did it only once, however!).. Love this hub! Thank you! Oh.. and biscotti - the absolute B.E.S.T. with this coffee!
Just as a side note.. coffee grinders make great herb/spice grinders/mixers - and a lot of people have more than one just for that reason!

We do not own one of those fancy espresso coffee machines but our simple stove top one does the job when needed. Our neighbors across the street have a nice machine that not only makes espresso but cappuccino as well. Maybe someday...
