Easter Poem ~ Eternal Life ~ Purpose Driven Life ~ My Micky Dee Tribute

73

By Peggy W

The purpose driven life

Today is Easter and a very special time of the year for those who follow the Christian faith.

For it was on this day that Jesus who had walked the earth for thirty-three years and was horribly humiliated, spat upon, tortured and cruelly put to death at the end of his life on earth, rose from the dead and ascended into heaven sitting at the right hand side of God the Father.

Certainly, as the Son of God, He had a purposed driven life while on earth.

He preached and taught The Golden Rule...to treat others as one would wish to be treated.

He reinforced the teaching of the 10 Commandments that had been inscribed upon stone tablets and given to Moses.

Ten little rules to follow which would change everyone's lives for the better!

He was meek in manner and strong when it mattered.

He was a preacher and teacher and led an exemplary life, not piling up transitory wealth while on earth, but for an eternity of a rich life in heaven.

It's Easter today!

What more need I say?

Eternal Life is now

Coming our way!

Purchased with pain

Purchased with sorrow

Secured smiles of amazement

And lifetimes of tomorrows.

Take pleasure in roses

And in their thorns.

Life is a journey

From death we are reborn.

Smiles of new babies

Generations unfold.

Bright hopes for the future

Now and Evermore.

Let us be grateful

For big things and small.

They are all part of this life

Until destiny calls.

All part of the plan

Meshed together like jam.

Earth is our playground...

Testing ground and more

Life is a gift...

Only temporary.....no more!

So live each day

As if it were your last

Soon it will happen...

We'll be judged by our past.

My Tribute

Many of you who have been writing on HubPages for a while already know Micky Dee.

This kind hearted bewhiskered bike riding enthusiast has seen good times and bad.

He is a Vietnam veteran.

Thanks for your service to our country, Micky!

Too many just like you were not given thanks at the time of this undeclared and unpopular war...and yet you held your head high and followed orders and did what you thought was right at the time for our country and flag.

Here is a recent hub of his describing that horrific time:

The Golden Rule

Micky believes and preaches the Golden Rule and it is a common thread that runs through many if not most of his hubs.

Most all of the world religions teach it in one form or another.

If not hijacked by fringe elements, most all religions would have us aspire to a higher purpose in life.

Basically the Golden Rule teaches the value of treating others as one would wish to be treated.

All of the ten commandments could be boiled down to this same basic tenet.

Sounds simple enough...doesn't it?

Here are several of Micky's recent hubs:

Micky Dee

Seldom do any two people agree on exactly everything. If we were genetic clones but still had free will, our ideas would sometimes meld and sometimes clash.

That does not mean that we cannot search for the good in people and causes, and politely disagree with other things in which they believe.

If Micky Dee was sitting at our kitchen table, I'm certain we would have some good and even possibly heated discussions about politics and life.

If Micky was leading a parade and pounding a drum at the head of the line, I would be right in step some of the time and would be out of step at other times.

But of one thing I am certain...this fine veteran; lover of wildlife (especially his birds and squirrels); lover of bike riding and fitness and photography (he fills his hubs with wonderful photos taken on his journeys)...truly loves his fellow man!

He believes in equality between people and cheers on his causes like equal health care for everyone.

Micky does not appreciate businesses putting profits ahead of people.

He does not appreciate politicians putting their own welfare and desires ahead of the common man.

Micky considers himself to be a common man.

But similar to another sandal clad Being who walked the earth over 2,000 years ago and who taught kindness and the Golden Rule, when I think of Micky Dee I think of a person who truly leads a purpose driven life.

Eternal life for everyone is just around the corner. It may be only a few more seconds or a few years away. Time slips away rapidly like ever changing grains of sand being blown into new patterns on a sand dune.

This Easter poem did not come as easily to me as it would have for Micky where words flow like glistening raindrops in free-fall from the clouds above. Hope you enjoyed it in the spirit that it was written. Happy Easter to everyone...especially you dear Micky!

Hi Knightheart,

Micky Dee is a VietNam vet; a bike rider that rides in many charity events; an animal lover...loves his birds and squirrels that he feeds; and what he is most passionate about is equality between human beings in all things. The Golden Rule is his favorite thing point of reference. The main thing is that he has a big heart!

Glad that you liked this hub and thanks for your comment.

Hi Peggy!

What a beautiful page! The pictures and music added so much to your thoughtful post. God is wonderful, no matter what happens. He is in COMPLETE control of all things, and even when we don't understand why HE allows difficult and troublesome events in our lives, He promised those who follow Him that these events will always be for our good and His Glory!

Since I am new here, I didn't know Micky Dee, but apparently he was a well loved member of this community. Thanks for your compassionate heart!

Micky Dee so often honors others in his writings that I thought it was only time to return the favor. Nice to know you and others on HP. As you say it does become a community after a while of friends from far and near. Though we may never have met in person, we can get to know one another through what we write. Hi Peggy - Well now - this was certainly mopre than just one "hub" unless, of course, you want to think of it as a great big wheel with lots of spokes and plenty of air in the tires. Nifty pix again, too.

What a lovely tribute to Micky Dee - I do enjoy his wit and candor on his many biking travails - I trust you had a blessed Easter - which always is a wonderful reminder of what Christianity is really about rather than the distorted view non Christians or extremists claiming Christian - it is about caring. tolerance and peace and finding your own way - freedom. Peace :)

Beautiful and awesome hub Peggy. Love the poem and the photos and how wonderful to honor my brother Micky Dee. He's one of the most honest folks on HP. He's seen more bad stuff than any of us will ever encounter. Great work! Peace!! Tom

Hello Charlu,

So often these brave veterans come back with battle scars that are not readily seen. They carry images of war in their minds and hearts up until they exit this life. You are correct in that we owe them gratitude and thanks. Their families pay a dear price also!

Glad that you liked my Easter poem. It is not about easter bunnies and chocolate eggs! Thanks for your votes and comment. Appreciate it!

Absolutely exquisite hub. Thank you for reminding us what Easter is really about. That no matter what our feelings are towards a particular war or battle that we should show admiration and gratitude to the ones that we the people of the U.S. asked them to fight. They leave everything that is dear to them for a fight unknown. Thank you Micky for serving and thank you Peggy for reminding us all what we seem to readily forget. Sensational videos, peaceful and empowering. Up, beautiful, awesome!!!

Hi Micky,

Your poetry flows so easily and carries so much meaning. Your heart is big enough to hold the entire world with tenderness and care and a little bit of spit-fire. Keep on biking and writing. The world needs more like you in it and teaching and preaching from your own life lived experiences. If we are open...we can continue to learn from one another. Happy to be your student. God bless!
