Growing up in the countryside of Wisconsin makes me a country girl at heart. Much of my time in those early years was spent climbing the trees that surrounded my parent's and grandparent's property. When my mother would call out our names ( I had two younger brothers ) she generally looked UP as she called us to come back into the house.
At the age of 13 my parents moved to South Texas. Talk about a change in climate and living conditions!
When I began my RN career as an operating room nurse, I chose to move to Houston. Except for 4 years going back to Wisconsin (where my husband was transferred) Houston continues to be our home.
Houston is a vibrant city full of venues for art and entertainment, and we enjoy the benefits of living here wholeheartedly.
My interests are wide and varied but include reading, traveling, photography, art, gardening and cooking.....and now with hubpages, I guess I should add writing to that list.

Having grown up with pets, my husband and I continue the tradition of having furry creatures in our home today. They add such joy and unexpected pleasure throughout the day that I feel sorry for people who do not have the companionship that these gentle creatures offer. We have had as many as three dogs at one time and right now our two cats are stretched out on the desk as I am writing this.
I have had many volunteer job positions through the years.....the longest being a volunteer counselor at an assistance ministry.
About five years ago my widowed mother sold her home; we sold ours, and we lived together for a little over 3 years before she died. I miss her terribly!
As I am getting into this hubpages phenomena, I am truly enjoying meeting new and different writers. There is so much good information available on hubpages with people sharing ideas; recipes; travel destinations, etc. that one has no reason to become bored or feel like they have nothing to do. Just jump on board and start reading. Learn, laugh and love life!
